I didn't quite buy the romance with Gyllenhaal, it was hard to see what she would see in the Bridges character. He was not an appealing person - overweight, slovenly, an alcoholic, and a significant age difference. I wondered if the idea might have been that she admired his music enough to look past that, but I don't think that was made clear if that was the case. And the rehab part seemed to go by too easily, that sort of thing is almost enough for a story itself (as in Postcards From the Edge and 28 Days, which I seem to be almost alone in thinking a pretty good movie).Patricknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1137730880076755122.post-28676784082934971432010-08-17T01:26:40.589+10:002010-08-17T01:26:40.589+10:00There's power in the acting, yes, but I got no...There's power in the acting, yes, but I got no joy at all out of this. I would say that CRAZY HEART is a good film and not a great one or, rather, a good film with a great performance at its heart as Bridges transcends the material.

Sure, Cooper dwells on cliches of the redemption story but I felt that he did so in a quite, unassuming way and let the actors do their thing and this is the real joy and power of the film - the performances.

I also thought that Colin Farrell was quite good in a small role as Blake's more successful protege. He kept things simple and I liked the give-and-take between him and Bridges.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.com
